Enhancing the UX of my Online Portfolio
It all started when I realized that…
As a UX designer, my portfolio website serves as a key touchpoint for potential clients, recruiters, and collaborators. While it showcased my work, I identified opportunities to improve navigation, content clarity, and overall engagement. This project focused on refining the user experience, optimizing accessibility, and enhancing the site’s visual hierarchy.
Problem Statement
User research and feedback indicated that visitors found it challenging to navigate through case studies, locate key information, and understand my unique design approach. Additionally, the mobile experience lacked consistency with the desktop version.
Goals
Improve navigation – Ensure users can quickly find portfolio projects and contact information.
Enhance visual hierarchy – Highlight key projects and call-to-actions (CTAs) for better engagement.
Increase conversion – Encourage more recruiters and clients to reach out via the contact form.
Research & Insights
User Interviews
Conducted user testing with recruiters and design peers to understand their expectations.
Key Findings
Visitors struggled to find contact details and project case studies.
The about section was not engaging enough and failed to highlight my value proposition.
The mobile experience was inconsistent, leading to high bounce rates.
Design Solutions
1. Simplified Navigation
Introduced a sticky menu for easy access to portfolio, about, and contact sections.
Grouped projects into clear categories (UX/UI, Product Design, Branding).
2. Improved Visual Hierarchy
Redesigned the homepage with a hero section that immediately conveys my expertise.
Used larger fonts, bold typography, and improved spacing for readability.
Added an interactive CTA button for quick contact.
3. Mobile Optimization
Implemented responsive design fixes for better scalability on all devices.
Adjusted image sizes and optimized loading speed for performance.
Results
📈 35% increase in portfolio page views
📉 20% decrease in bounce rate
📩 More inbound inquiries from recruiters and potential clients
Conclusion & Takeaways
This UX overhaul significantly improved usability, engagement, and conversions. Moving forward, I plan to implement A/B testing for CTAs and further optimize accessibility to create an even smoother experience.
